PVA vs wheat paste for spines, I finally picked a side

I spent 6 months testing both on my rebinds and wheat paste keeps failing me on tight spines, it cracks right at the hinge by week 2. Switched to pure PVA on my last 3 projects and even a customer noticed how flat the book stays open at the 90 degree mark. Anyone else find wheat paste only works if you mix it thicker or am I just doing it wrong?
