Spent $40 on a cheap book light for our night meetings and it was a total waste.

The light flickered so bad during our discussion of 'The Left Hand of Darkness' that everyone got headaches and we couldn't focus. Has anyone found a decent clip-on light under $50 that doesn't buzz or strobe?

Yeah that sounds about right for those cheap book lights. I grabbed one from a big box store a while back and it gave me a splitting headache within ten minutes. The constant flickering is the worst part, especially with something like Le Guin where you really need to focus on the text. For under $50 the little cheap ones just aren't going to cut it for group reading.

Honestly those cheap lights are just garbage for reading. I got one and the flicker was so bad I could see it out of the corner of my eye the whole time. Ruined the vibe for a whole chapter of Dispossessed. Ngl you're better off just using a regular desk lamp or reading in daylight.
