Shoutout to the book club member who called my pick 'too easy' before we even met
I picked a 320 page mystery for our January meeting at the library on Maple Street and one member emailed the group saying it was beneath us, so I asked her to name one book she finished in December and she went quiet. Turns out she has not read past chapter two of anything since October, which is fine, but then why come for my pick? What is the weirdest reason someone in your group has shot down a book before the first page?
When our leader picked a 400 page Civil War book, one lady said it was too long for her busy schedule, then showed up the next month having read all of it on audio in like a week. I just started asking people to bring their last finished book to the meeting, and the complaints dropped way off.
