Serious question, did our club get it backwards on The Road, we spent 2 hours in a Denver meeting room last Tuesday arguing the ending was hopeful and I still think we all missed the point

Nine of us showed up and every single person except me voted that the last page was a happy ending, and I sat there wondering if we even read the same book. Am I the only one who thinks a book club should argue about the text itself instead of just swapping feelings about it?
