The old foreman's trick I still use on every boiler patch job
Last week I was patching a firetube in Gary, Indiana and reached for the soapy water spray bottle out of habit, just like my foreman showed me 20 years back before he retired. He swore by a squirt of dish soap and a paintbrush over any fancy leak detector, and darn if it didn't catch a hairline crack I almost missed on a tube sheet weld. Anyone else hold onto an old-school method that the younger guys laugh at until it saves the day?

Soap catches leaks, but your ears catch the hiss first. Old trick that works.
