Showerthought: My dad, a retired pipefitter, said 'A boiler's just a big, angry tea kettle' and it stuck with me.
He was talking about respecting the pressure and scale, but treating the basic principle the same. Anyone else have a simple saying that changed how you look at a complex job?

Big angry tea kettle" is how I describe my last project deadline.

Yeah, that "big angry tea kettle" feeling @wyattc77 is so real. My friend's last team call before a launch was just a solid hour of everyone talking over each other, steam just pouring out. It finally ended when someone's actual kettle started screaming in the background, which felt weirdly perfect.

That "steam pouring out" thing @davis.iris mentioned is exactly right. My buddy was on a video call that got so heated his laptop fan started whining like a jet engine. It got louder and louder until his cat, startled by the noise, knocked a full glass of water right onto his keyboard. The call just cut out with a fizzy pop sound. It was the universe hitting the off switch on that whole mess.
