PSA: I used to watch 4 episodes a night at 1.5x speed, and it ruined two shows for me
For about two years I did the speed watching thing. I would get home from work, queue up whatever drama everyone was talking about, and burn through four episodes a night with the speed cranked up to 1.5x. I got through 11 full seasons of stuff in one summer and felt like I was winning. Then my wife sat down next to me during the finale of a show we had both been watching, and she asked who the guy with the scar was. I had no idea. I had watched 32 episodes with that character and could not tell her one thing about him. That was the night it clicked for me. These days I watch one episode, sometimes two, at normal speed, phone in the other room, and I notice camera work, small lines, and little looks between characters that I used to blow right past. Last week I rewatched the pilot of a show I thought I loved and saw three things I had completely missed the first time around. If you are grinding through a rewatch or a first watch at high speed, what finally made you slow down? Or do some of you still think 2x is the right call?
