Spent $1,400 on a used cargo van to start my own delivery route and it was the best money I ever lit on fire
Three years ago I was still grinding it out at the post office and kept telling myself I'd never be able to afford to go out on my own. I found a beat up 2006 Ford E-250 on Marketplace for $1,400, put another $600 into tires and a brake job, and started hauling furniture for people on weekends around Grand Rapids. That van paid for itself in six weeks and eventually became my full time gig, but I still keep the USPS job because the benefits are too good to walk away from yet. For anyone who made the jump from a steady paycheck to self employment, how long did it take before you felt okay dropping the safety net?
