The old timer at the co-op who swore by grease on pedal threads, not Loctite

He said loc-tite just makes the next guy curse your name, and after I watched him back out a seized pedal in 2 minutes with a cheater bar while my own Loctite jobs took 20, I switched to marine grease and never looked back, anyone else find the conventional wisdom just slows you down?

Did that old timer ever show you what he does for crank bolts or disc rotor bolts? I keep seeing guys split on grease vs threadlocker depending on the part, but nobody ever has a solid rule of thumb. My buddy stripped a pedal spindle using grease on a new bike, said it walked loose on him, so now I'm curious if the old school method has a catch.
