Old timer at the shop in Tucson swore by greasing brake pivots, and he was dead right
Had a guy bring in a 2011 Trek hybrid a few weeks back with brakes that felt like wet cardboard, and an old mechanic I used to work with in Tucson always greased the pivots on every tune up, which I figured was overkill till I actually tried it. I pulled the calipers on this Trek, cleaned out the gunk with a rag and some alcohol, put a thin layer of grease on the pivot points, and the levers snapped back like they were new. Cost me maybe 10 dollars in grease and 15 minutes, and the customer came back saying it felt like a whole different bike. Now I do it on every rebuild. Anyone else got a small step like that you used to skip and now swear by?
