I finally threw out my $120 stud finder and learned to knock on the wall like a normal person
Everyone on YouTube swears you need a fancy scanner before you hang a shelf, but mine beeped on a pipe, a wire, and nothing at all in the same 3 inch stretch. A guy at the hardware store in Boise laughed and said just tap the drywall with your knuckle and listen for the hollow spot, which took me 10 seconds. Anyone else got a $100+ tool sitting in a drawer that a knuckle beat?
