That master barber who told me to skip the clippers was right

Old Jimmy at Lou's shop on 12th said my fade work would never stand out if I leaned on clippers for the whole cut, so he made me do 3 months of straight razor outline practice on mannequins. Last weekend a client with coarse, curly hair asked for a skin fade and my razor work held the line twice as clean as my clipper version ever did. Anyone else ditch the clippers for certain sections after a veteran put you on the spot like that?
