Unpopular opinion: People who hate on 'The Room' for being boring are watching it wrong.

You have to watch it with a group, yell at the screen, and throw plastic spoons, otherwise you're just seeing a bad movie, not a fun one. Anyone else have a specific ritual for their favorite terrible film?

So what's the line between a bad movie and a good bad movie? Like, "The Room" is a blast with friends, but I tried that with "Birdemic" and it just felt like a slog. Is it the movie's own sincere weirdness that makes the ritual work, or can any bad film be saved by the right crowd?

Actually, it's more about the movie's internal logic falling apart in a funny way. The Room feels like a real guy's weird passion project, so the bad acting and strange choices have a charm. Birdemic just feels cheap and boring, like they didn't even try. A great crowd helps, but the film needs to fail in an interesting way first.

Yeah, "failing in an interesting way" is the key. The Room is a weird train wreck you can't look away from. Birdemic is just a stalled car on the side of the road.
