Serious question, did I waste $80 on a soil test kit for my lawn?

I grabbed one of those $15 soil test kits from the hardware place on Colfax back in April because my grass had yellow patches and I figured it was a scam. Turns out my pH was sitting at 5.2, way more acidic than I expected, and after two lime treatments that cheap test was dead on when the county extension office checked it for free. Now I am wondering if the fancier $80 lab test is worth it for the rest of the yard or if I should just stick with the drugstore kit. What is everybody using to test their soil before throwing down fertilizer?
