TIL you can fix orange peel texture with a heat gun

Was spraying a Honda Civic hood last week. Got that nasty orange peel look. Buddy told me to hit it with a heat gun from 6 inches away. Just quick passes. Let it cool. Came out glass smooth. No wet sanding. No buffing. Has anyone else tried this for quick texture fixes?

Oh, this is a good one. My husband tried this on a tail light housing he was finishing up in the garage last month and it worked like a charm. He was skeptical at first because we always just did wet sanding and buffing on our projects. The heat gun really does melt that texture right down like butter if you keep it moving. Just be real careful not to stay in one spot too long or you will blister the paint. We keep a spray bottle of water handy just in case we need to cool it down fast.

What was the specific texture like on that housing before he hit it with the heat gun? I've seen some tail lights that are more stubborn than others depending on the plastic. Dropping that spray bottle tip though, @rosed32, that's a solid move and I'll be stealing it.
