Learned I was welding with the wrong polarity for 4 years, a 1968 C10 tipped me off

I've been patching floor pans and doing light fab work since I got my booth in 2019. Always ran flux core on DCEN because that's how the guy who trained me did it. Last month a customer brought in this old C10 with a rotted cab corner and said the welds looked cold. I handed him the gun to try and he flipped me a switch, told me to redo a test bead. Night and day on penetration, and now I'm wondering what else I've been doing wrong this whole time. Anyone else had a basic setup habit that some customer or old-timer called out after years?
