I stopped hiring a guy to clean my gutters twice a year and I think most of y'all are wasting money
For years I paid a guy $180 twice a year to clean the gutters on my place in Marietta, and last spring I finally climbed up there myself with a $30 ladder hook and a bucket. Took me about 40 minutes, and I pulled out maybe two handfuls of pine straw and a dead frog, nothing close to worth $360 a year. The funny part is my neighbor saw me up there and said his guy charges $250 now, so he just lets the gutters fill up and hopes for the best. I get that some roofs are too steep or too tall, but for a normal one story house this is not a $300 job. Anyone else ditched the gutter guy, or am I gonna regret this the first big storm?
That $30 ladder hook is the whole deal right there. I got one of those extendable ones for about the same price and it changed everything, because the old method was dragging a ladder around the house and moving it fifteen times. Now I just walk the perimeter and pull the stuff toward me, and I can reach the second story from the ground on the low side of my yard. Two handfuls of pine straw matches what I get too, plus the occasional tennis ball from the neighbor's dog. The one thing I'd say is check your downspouts after you're done, because the gutters can look clean while the elbows are packed solid. Mine ran slow for a month before I figured that out, and that's the kind of thing that does cause a problem in a big storm.
