Unpopular opinion: a $25 hot glue gun ruined my sister's wedding centerpieces and nobody warned me
Back in March I volunteered to make 30 dried flower centerpieces for my sister's wedding in Reno, and I figured my old $8 glue gun from a craft store would do the job. It ran too hot and the glue turned yellow on the stems within two days, so I switched to a low temp gun that cost $25 and it saved everything. The cheap one also dripped and left strings all over the ribbon I wrapped around the mason jars. If you are gluing anything with dried flowers or thin ribbon, check the temp before you buy. Has anyone found a glue stick that actually holds on painted wood without peeling off in a week?
Learned this the hard way when my cheap glue gun spat strings all over a wreath I spent hours on, so your sister's centerpieces got off easy compared to my little disaster. Low temp is the way to go for anything delicate, even if it stings to pay $25 for something that looks the same as the $8 one. For painted wood I've had okay luck scuffing the paint with fine sandpaper first, though your mileage may vary since some paints just fight glue no matter what.
