That $180 metal detector found nothing but bottle caps for 3 months

Bought a fancy metal detector last spring after watching too many river finds videos. Took it to old farm sites near Lafayette and the best thing I dug up was a rusted hubcap from the 70s. After 14 outings and probably 200 bottle caps, I sold it for $60 on Craigslist. Anyone else get suckered into the treasure hunting dream and come up empty? I'd rather just read about actual digs online now.
