My climbing line coiling method got a total overhaul last season
I used to just do the classic butterfly coil, but after a workshop in Boise, I switched to a mountaineering-style coil with a girth hitch finish. It's way faster to deploy and never tangles in the bag. Anyone else make a switch like that and stick with it?

Sounds like we all just needed someone to show us a better way to wrangle the spaghetti. My old coiling method was a guaranteed knot factory every single time. Funny how the simple stuff can make such a big difference.

That Boise workshop must have been a good one. I switched to a similar method after a guide in Ouray showed me the over-the-shoulder coil with a rope strap. The real game changer was learning to flake the rope directly into my pack instead of coiling at all for single pitch cragging. Saves so much time at the base of every climb.
