Dropped a 40 foot limb on a client's new fence on Tuesday and I'm still sick about it
So I was doing a routine removal on a big silver maple out in Beaverton, nothing crazy, just a dead leader over the back corner of the yard. I had my notch and back cut set and the hinge was holding fine, but the wind shifted right as it went over and that limb spun off the fence line instead of the open grass. Took out 12 feet of brand new cedar fencing plus a gate, and the homeowner had just put that fence in 3 weeks ago for $4,800. I stood there in my spikes for a solid 5 minutes just staring at it, then called my insurance guy and knocked $700 off the job on the spot. I know rigging it down piece by piece would've been the safe call but I got cocky on an easy drop. Does anyone else carry a separate rider for client property damage or do you just eat it out of pocket like I did?
