That Whirlpool dryer drum finally got me after 12 years of fixes

Got a call last Tuesday in Toledo for a dryer that was screeching like a dying cat. Opened it up and the rear drum bearing had basically turned to powder, wear pattern was so deep I could see the shaft grinding through. Replaced the bearing and belt kit for $85 in parts, but the drum itself had a hairline crack from all those years of abuse. Has anyone else seen that cracking pattern on older Whirlpool models, or do I just need to tell the owner it's time for a new machine?

Man I've fixed that same crack pattern so many times my own dryer probably filed for a restraining order...
