Rant: the hot surface igniter on a Whirlpool oven tested 78 ohms warm and looked fine, and it ate 4 days of my week
Customer in Rochester called about a gas oven that wouldn't light, so I ohmed the igniter cold on Monday and got the spec reading, called the board bad, and told them I'd order one. Swapped the board Wednesday, still no glow, same click and no flame. Friday I finally pulled the igniter out and tested it hot, it read 78 ohms once warmed up but the weak one on my van read 62, and the oven lit right up on the good one, which means I spent 4 days and two trips chasing the wrong part. Lesson for me is to always test that igniter warm before blaming anything else, cold checks lie. How do you all bench test those without cracking the ceramic?
