One chat with an old timer changed how I read schematic diagrams
I was swapping a compressor on a 15 year old Frigidaire in Bakersfield last Thursday, and the homeowner came out to watch. He was retired, said he fixed TVs in the 70s. He pointed at my multimeter and said, 'you trust that thing more than your own eyes, dont you?' That hit me because I had been chasing a short for 40 minutes that turned out to be a cracked wire hidden behind the relay. Now I trace the harness first, meter second. It added maybe 5 minutes to my start on every call but it's cut my misdiagnosis rate way down. Has anyone else had a customer or old timer drop some advice that actually stuck?

That old timer trick about tracing wires first saved my butt on a water heater job last month.
