Watched 40 episodes on 3x speed and wondered why I hated every anime

Last Tuesday I caught myself blasting through a 12 episode show in under an hour and a half. I thought I was being efficient, you know, getting through the 'filler' faster. Then the season finale hit and I realized I couldn't name a single character's motivation or even the main conflict. My buddy asked me what I thought of the big twist and I drew a total blank. That's when it clicked. I wasn't watching anime, I was just checking boxes. Slowed down to normal speed on a rewatch of something from 2019 and it felt like a completely different show. Has anyone else ruined a series this way, or am I the only one who treated anime like a speedrun?
