My friend told me to skip the first 20 episodes of One Piece and I'm glad I didn't listen.

He said the East Blue saga was too slow and I should just watch a recap. I started from episode one anyway, and those early episodes with Luffy, Zoro, and Nami setting out are what made me actually care about the crew. The Arlong Park arc hit way harder because of it. Skipping it would have felt like starting a book at chapter 10. Does anyone else think some 'skip lists' do more harm than good?

Honestly, @diana238 nailed it with the book comparison. Those early episodes build the heart of the story you can't just skip.

Skipping those early episodes is like starting a book at chapter 10" is such a perfect way to put it.

Disagree completely, @diana238. Those early chapters are often just setup and world building that drags. Jumping to where the plot actually gets good is a valid way to enjoy a story. You miss some details, but you get to the heart of the show faster. Calling it wrong feels like gatekeeping how people should watch things. If someone enjoys it more starting later, that's a win for them.
