Took me six weeks to fix my storefront sign, no one warned me about permits

Back in February my sign at the 6th Street shop just froze up, one of those old neon ones that hums all night. I figured a quick electrician visit would sort it, but it turned out the wiring was shot and the city needed an inspection before I could even get a quote. Six weeks total, plus about $740 in fees and repairs, and I lost walk-in traffic the whole time. What really got me was the permitting office only takes paperwork on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so one missed form cost me another week. Has anyone else dealt with Amarillo sign regulations taking way longer than the actual fix?

Ngl, the whole "one missed form cost me another week" part hit hard because I heard from a guy down at the feed store that Amarillo's permit office actually lost his whole file once, and he had to start from zero. Tbh, it sounds like they make it painful on purpose just to see who really wants to fix their sign. I remember reading in the paper last year that the city was gonna streamline this stuff, but clearly that never happened. Six weeks for a sign is wild though, I would've just thrown a tarp over it and called it art. Hope your walk-in traffic bounces back now that it's glowing again.
