The catering truck backed into my food trailer at 6am and the insurance guy asked if it was a 'business interruption'
Last Tuesday I was setting up for the 806 Farmers Market rush and a catering truck from one of the big hotels on I-40 tried to squeeze past my trailer on 6th Ave. He clipped the corner, bent my serving window frame, and shattered the prep counter glass. He tried to just hand me a $50 bill and drive off. I told him to hold up, got his license plate, and called his company's dispatch. Turns out he didn't even have the proper commercial liability rider on his policy. It took two weeks and 14 phone calls to get his insurance to cover the $240 repair, plus the $180 in lost morning sales while I couldn't operate. My own policy said I should have had 'business interruption' coverage but I never added it because it sounded like corporate jargon. Has anyone else dealt with a drive-off at a market and actually gotten fair pay without a lawyer?
