The garage door opener that finally made me call my dad at 6am
Been in my place near Red Deer since 2006. Never had a problem with the old Chamberlain, thing was a beast, survived two hail storms and a power surge. Last Thursday the remote just quit. No click, no nothing, dead as a doornail. I figured battery, swapped it, nothing. Then I tried the wall button and it worked fine. So I'm standing there at 5:45 in the morning with my coffee, staring at this plastic brick, and I remember my dad used to say the antenna wire on those old units gets corroded over time. Sure enough, I pop the cover off the motor unit and the little wire is green and crusty. Took me 20 minutes to snip it back and re-strip it, and the remote worked right away. Saved myself a $250 service call for a 50 cent fix. Anyone else dealt with the antenna thing or is it just my luck that the one time I don't call someone first, it actually works?
