Am I the only one who thought zone resistors were a scam until a panel in Gary, Indiana proved me wrong?
I've been wiring panels for 9 months now and always skipped the end of line resistors because I figured they were just extra parts the manufacturer wanted me to buy. Last Tuesday I did a panel swap on a 1960s house near Gary, Indiana and the homeowner wanted every zone supervised, so I finally installed them right at the contacts. When a basement window got bumped open two weeks later, the panel showed the exact zone instead of just a general trouble, and I actually felt kind of dumb for skipping them all this time. Do you all put resistors at the contact or back at the panel on retrofits, because I'm still not sure which way is better for old wiring?
