Vent: I thought the whole 'torque stripe' thing was just for show until a gear pin backed out

I used to skip it on small jobs, but after a Cessna 172's nose gear pin started walking out last month (caught it on a preflight, thank god), I stripe everything now. How many of you actually mark every single fastener, or is that just a hangar queen thing?

...and honestly I still think it's overkill for most stuff. Yeah, a critical fastener backing out on a plane is serious, but slapping a stripe on every single nut and bolt on a ladder or a lawn mower? Come on. A torque stripe isn't gonna magically keep things tight if you didn't torque it right in the first place. Just check the loose stuff during your normal walkaround and save the paint for the stuff that'll actually kill you if it falls off.

Guess my laziness is the best teacher for torque stripes.

You caught it on a preflight, so the system worked. I get marking critical stuff, but every single fastener? That seems like overkill for a lot of routine jobs.
