1000th logbook entry got me thinking about old vs new inspection methods
I hit my 1,000th logbook entry last Tuesday on a Cessna 172 brake job, and it made me wonder if the old-school paper trails are really better than the digital tablets the new guys push. I've seen two mechanics argue over a cracked rotor: one trusted his calipers and feel, the other ran a 3D scan, both came out fine. So which side are you on when it comes to trusting experience versus technology on a routine inspection?

Calipers and a good feel never lie to you, but that 3D scan catches stuff my eyes would miss after a long day. Paper logs are nice for the history, but a tablet lets you flag a crack with photos and share it with the owner in two seconds. Both work, but I'd trust the scan on a routine job where fatigue can mess with your judgment.
